Querida Familia,
On April 24th, something powerful happened in Boston. One hundred Latino leaders from across Massachusetts came together—not for another networking event, not for another panel discussion, but to begin building something larger than ourselves. Leaders from corporate, nonprofit, government, small business, philanthropy, and academia gathered in one room to ask a simple but important question:
What could happen if we truly aligned as a Latino community?
We were honored to welcome the two Latino members of Governor Healey’s cabinet—Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities Juana Matias and Secretary of Education Dr. Stephen Zrike. We began the day listening to pioneers who had been advancing this work since the ’70s and ’80s and ended the day hearing reflections from ten Latino college students intentionally brought into the room as part of the next generation of leadership.
What made the summit special was not who spoke—it was what emerged from the collective conversation.
Across facilitated workshops, participants reflected on the gifts that define our community: our familismo, resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, warmth, adaptability, and ability to build community wherever we go. There was also honesty about the work ahead. Leaders spoke openly about the need to move beyond silos, scarcity mindsets, and competition so we can build something more unified, strategic, and lasting together.
Again and again, the same vision emerged: a Latino community that is aligned across sectors and regions, building collective power, creating generational wealth, supporting one another “on the way up,” and ensuring our children grow up seeing themselves represented at every level of leadership.
Participants also challenged Unidos in Power to become more than an organization—to become infrastructure for connection, alignment, data, mentorship, advocacy, and movement-building across Massachusetts.
As one participant shared after the summit: “For the first time in decades, I did not feel individualism in Boston. I felt one united fist.”
That is what this moment truly represents. Not a single event. Not a single organization. But something much larger: a more connected, confident, and unified Latino movement in Massachusetts.
The spark has been lit, and the fire is in our bellies! Unidos in Power is prepared to deliver on that call to action alongside all of you.
Siempre Unidos,
Grace
